I spend my whole life growing out my hair, I think. I love to wear it short and I love it long, so I am always transitioning to one style or another. So, I am growing out now, from this, which was my spring ‘do, to - well, I don’t quite know yet. [...]

Salon Quality Healthy Alternative Hair Products

Keeping my tresses looking their best has always been a priority for me. So I wasn't too quick to convert my conventional hair products over to the healthy alternative kind. I don't know how it happened, but slowly I made the change to gel, conditioner and shampoo without sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens and other chemicals that I can't pronounce.Admittedly, it wasn't easy at first. I tried everything in the body care aisle of Whole Foods. Without any recommendations, but strictly by trial and error, I eventually found myself exclusively buying Giovanni hair products. Why? Because they are salon quality that deliver a nutritional diet to my hair. They are not a pseudo-healthy alternative that has a drop of botanicals and loads of harsh chemicals. They are the real deal that truly make my hair look great.Fortunately, they are easy on the wallet when compared to salon products, too. For example, Giovanni's L.A. Hold Hair Spray costs just over $7. This spray holds great, doesn't flake and

Different Hair style for men

Men with round faces should keep short hairstyles or wispy cut that sweep back away from the face. Use a product to add a little height to your hairstyle.

Square face shapes men should keep any styles that is cleanly cut around the ears and mirrors your square face. A short spiky hair cut as well as any sleek style is good for a square face shape.

A classic oval shaped face looks great with all styles. Try changing the part. However a longer hair styles with a few graduated layers around the face gives a strong masculine signature.

Hair Care - Home Hair Care To Save Money

If you consider yourself a thrifty person. Then probably won't go to a professional hair care salon to have your hair dyed, when you could dye it yourself at home. Before you to care for your hair at home there are somethings that you should know about home hair care.About Home Hair CareThe first thing that you need to know before you decide to dye your hair at home, is choose the color that you are going to dye you hair. If you have naturally dark hair, and you want to dye your hair blond, you are going to have to strip your hair first. This can be done with peroxide, but if you don't follow the directions carefully, you will end up damaging your hair, and scalp. So, if you really want a drastic color change, you should spend the extra money to have a professional dye your hair.Home hair care is great for people that just want to change their hair color to another one that is the same shade, or darker than their natural hair color. Thus, people that are brunettes could dye their hair r

Mascara and Moisturizer

The back of my hair is really short and is taking forever to grow (you know underneath all the hair where the "kitchen" grows). When I got my split ends clipped about two weeks ago, my hairdresser told me to try this moisturuzer. She told me to apply it everyday because she had the same problem and now her hair looks good in the back. I've been using it everyday and what is so good about this moisturizer is it's actually being absorbed by the scalp, it's not sitting on top of my hair like everything I have used before. It keeps my hair shiny, soft and manageable.I've been using the mascara pictured on the right for years now and I decided to try something new since I do not want to try fake eyelashes (it just seems like a hassle). Maybelline's new mascara Define-A-Lash definitely lives up to all the hype. It makes your lashes miles and miles long-to the point where people will think you have on fake lashes. You should try it!

Hair Tips - Curly Hair Care

Curly Hair Care Tipsby Mahisha DellingerShampoo TipsSome curly girls shampoo, and others choose to skip shampooing and opt for conditioning rinses only. Shampooing curly hair weekly isn't a necessity, curly girls can use a conditioner to effectively rinse away excess dirt and oil. However, I recommend that you shampoo curly hair at least once a month, 2-3x is optimal. Avoid using shampoos that strip your curly hair of essential elements, leaving your hair feeling dry and unmanageable. How to Properly Shampoo Curly Hair: Rinse hair and scalp using warm water (never hot water, as it can dry out the hair and scalp). Apply a small amount of shampoo into the palm of your hand, rub together and evenly coat the scalp. Massage gently with your fingertips. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat only if your scalp is oily or if you have a build up of products on the hair.Additional Shampooing Tips: Before shampooing curly hair, comb a coat of conditioner evenly throughout your tresses. Rinse well. This extra s

Dr. Miracle's Tingling Hair Products

I have very fine and semi-wavy hair. It is naturally wavy/curly but because it is so thin it doesn't really look good natural (picture limp, frizzy waves/curls), so I relax it (like most black women). I do my own relaxers at home because there is no difference from when I go to the hair salon-it looks exactly the same-people ask me all the time "What shop do you go to?" or "Who does your hair?". I finally decided to use Dr. Miracle's "Feel It" relaxer because they have been featured in a few mags like Allure and InStyle. I figured it had to be a good product since it was featured in predominantly white magazines. I used the relaxer pictured above last night and now I understand why it's called the "Feel It" formula. After shampooing the relaxer out of your hair, there is a "Secret Potion" that you are supposed to apply to your hair and it's a leave in conditioner/moisturizer. When you apply the potion to your scalp and hair, there is this instant tingling feeling. Your scalp and hair

Do Blondes Really Have More Fun?

These young ladies sure do know how to switch it up, from dark brown to white-girl blonde. I personally think Ciara looks a mess as a blonde and I hope she keeps her hair dark. We are so used to seeing Eve as a blonde that we forgot how cute she looks with a natural-looking hair color. Beyonce is always going from dark to light, light to dark. In my opinion, she likes the idea of sometimes looking like the around-the-way girl and then looking like a well, umm -white girl. I think Monica looks the best with her blonde weave because of two reasons: the length/cut/style and because it makes her skin glow. Her hair's length and hair style looks realistic which does not make the color look so damn FAKE, it actually looks really good. Wearing a wig down your back is one thing, but wearing a blonde wig that is down your back is just ridiculous and ghetto.

Beauty review: Frederik Fekkai hair products

For a long time i was desperate about the way my hair looks. Even though i use to go at the hair dresser quite frequently (approx once a week), and there i receive a good treatment (l'Oreal Professional shampoo, conditioner and mask), i was not happy with the tern, frizzy feeling of my hair. It didn't shine (except the week after colouring it - i am natural brown, but inside i am a red-head, so i prefer dark, rich red) and some weeks ago i decided i really need a major hair repair. That's why i started researching about hair products, comparing reviews, to see whats the best for damaged hair. At Sephora i came across Frederik Fekkai hair products line, and immediately know that's what i was looking for. The fact that I was reading very good reviews of those "state-of-the-art" (as mention on their website) styling products, plus the list of famous clients of Frederik Fekkai himself (including Liv Tyler, Kim Basinger, etc) convince me.For a start, i bought the Texturing Balm, along with a

A Look at Some Vita Amazonia Hair Products

Awhile back, I wrote about my wonderful experience with Vita Amazonia DMAE and Matrixyl Creams, which I had gotten as sample in my Beauty Buyble book and samples. Since then, I have been trying some of Vita Amazonia's other products, including some hair products. I continue to be impressed with this company!Vita Amazonia Clean Pollution Shampoo is a gentle and moisturizing shampoo that is formulated to remove pollutants from the hair. The shampoo lathers well and rinses clean. I like it quite a bit as a way to remove product buildup. The companion Clean Pollution Conditioner is also a decent product. I have fine, but also thick hair, so I prefer something a bit more detangling than the conditioner provides. But it is a good companion product for coarser hair types or shorter hair. The product that really shined for me, and unfortunately is currently out of stock on Vita Amazonia's website was the Intensive Keratin Moisturizer. This deep conditioning hair treatment contains silk amino ac

Review: Alterna Caviar Anti-aging Hair Care

Caviar=Indulgence. It is no surprise that Alterna's Caviar hair care line feels like complete indulgence. I was completely taken by surprise when I used their Caviar Anti-aging Shampoo & Conditioner. My hair is long and feels thick and coarse. I've never had a day when I can simply use a pick through my hair without spraying on detangler first. YET---these products made my hair feel so wonderful, so soft, so smooth and literally it felt so much lighter, that I was amazed to watch my pick go through my hair without using any other hair product first.I'm not the only person who was blown away by their products. During the review process was when I was in and out of the hospital (baby, surgery, etc). My mother stayed at my house to help my husband take care of our other children. She called me at the hospital to basically tell me she was taking home the Alterna products. She told me her hair has never felt better or had such a magnificent shine before. It took a lot of arguing, but she fin

SHAVING FACESTEP ONE: PREPAlways shave afte...

SHAVING FACE

STEP ONE: PREP

Always shave after or at the end of a shower, to soften the beard, open the pores, and cleanse the skin. In a rush, a warm towel and splash of water can be used as a substitute. Apply a good shave cream. I swear by Truefitt and Hill's Shave Cream. Stay away from gels or products which contain menthol, which will close your pores and stiffen your beard. If you have a tough beard or very sensitive skin, you may wish to apply a pre-shave oil before you apply shaving cream (Metro Men's Grooming Pre-Shave Oil from American Haircuts is the best out there!). Shaving cream is ideally applied with a brush (badger hair is best) to soften and lift the beard. A good prep is vital to soften the beard and minimize irritation. Also, make sure you change your blade at least once per week - dull blades play hell on your face.
STEP TWO: SHAVE

Use a clean, sharp razor such as the Gillette Mach3. Start by shaving WITH the grain (the direction the hair grows). This will minimize cuts, irritation, in-grown hairs and razor burn. Glide the razor gently over your face. Avoid applying pressure and rinse your blade often. If you must have a closer shave, re-lather and shave lightly against the grain. If you cut yourself, apply a moist alum block on the area to stop bleeding. After shaving, close the pores with a rinse of cool water.
If using a shaving brush, always hang the brush to dry with the bristles facing downward.
STEP THREE: TONE

Many men make the mistake of stopping with step two, but the following is important to keep your skin healthy and protect from signs of aging. After rinsing with cool water, tone the skin with an alcohol-free astringent . This will remove dead skin, excess dirt and oils.
STEP FOUR: MOISTURIZE

You will need to hydrate and protect the skin. Finishing with a moisturizer (preferably one with sunscreen added) is key to leaving the skin soft, smooth, and protected.

KEEP YOUR SCALP CLEANKnow What's In Your Shampo...

KEEP YOUR SCALP CLEAN

Know What's In Your Shampoo

The scalp should be cleansed using a shampoo that is mild as possible. Try to find a shampoo that is acid based, rather than alkaline based. Acid based shampoos are more mild to the skin (and hair). Look for shampoos that have a pH of 4.5 to 5.5. Also, look at the ingredients in your shampoo. The key cleanser used in many shampoos is Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Look for shampoos which contain Sodium Myreth Sulfate instead. The larger molecular structure of Sodium Myreth prevents penetration into the hair shaft or skin, is exceptionally gentle, and won't strip moisture from the hair and skin. Kenra makes an excellent line of shampoos formulated with Sodium Myreth Sulfate as the key cleanser.
Avoid Drying Problems
Wash hair in lukewarm water (hot water promotes a dry scalp) and avoid drying the scalp with a blowdryer.

Exfoliate
Once or twice per week, remove dead skin and dirt from the scalp with an exfoliating scrub made for use on the face or scalp. American Crew's Scrub is excellent.

Moisturize
Use of a good moisturizing conditioner (such as Paul Mitchell's Daily Conditioner) not only helps keep the hair looking good, but it's also great for helping the scalp maintain moisture.

Massage
A good scalp massage promotes blood flow to the scalp, soothes nerves, relaxes muscles, keeps the scalp flexible, and promotes hair growth and luster. Oh, and it feels great, too. Once per week, massage the scalp using firm pressure on upward strokes. Fingers should be placed under the hair (to avoid pulling) and massage should be performed using the balls of the fingertips in a circular motion. Massage the entire scalp for three or four minutes.
